2013 Review part 1

So here we are again at the end of another year.  Personally, it's been an interesting 12 months...my better half landed a full-time job and has since been promoted...I was laid off then found another job with a much better company that's actually growing instead of slowly bleeding to death like my former one and most importantly, there has been an insane number of hobby releases.  So we'll go ahead and talk about that one.

Allies...Sometimes its best not to have friends

6th edition is a little over a year old now and I've had some time to consider some of the things I wasn't fond of when the new rules dropped.  After a year, several new codexes and attending a GT I've come to the conclusion that...yeah Allies still suck.

The Warstore Weekend Finale: Mechanicon Day 2

Back again with the end of my long-winded report on Warstore Weekend.  I'm just happy that I'm ending my write-up in the same month as Warstore Weekend.  Games 5 and 6 were on Sunday and after going 0-4 Saturday, my luck was bound to change...right?

The WarStore comes to NJ part 2: Mechanicon Day 1

Game 1:My opponent's Vendetta bearing
down on my Stealth team
Saturday started early.  Very early for a Saturday, thank you.  I was back at the hotel at 8 AM for the first 3 games of Mechanicon.  This was my first GT so I was excited.  I intended to get my teeth kicked in, but 5 games in 2 days are fun, so I was ready to rock.

The WarStore comes to NJ: Day 1

This weekend was WarStore Weekend here in NJ and seeing as I've heard so much about it, it got cheaper this year and it's literally the next town over from me, I just had to go.  It was really fun finally having some aspect of the gaming community as a whole acknowledging NJ exists and everyone involved put on a great convention.

Space Marines Initial Impression Part 1

My new Space Marine codex came a few days ago so I've had a little time to look at it and I've managed to come up with my usual self-serving over-opinionated thoughts about it.  Once again I've been missing for a few months so I'm taking the opportunity to return again to the interwebs as another voice among the many hobby blogs.  Anyway...here we go.

After-Action report - 1850 Tournament

In my usual prompt fashion, I'm going to talk about last week's tournament at the Gamer's Realm in Hamilton, NJ.  My Tau aren't ready yet so I borrowed a few models and brought my Necrons.  I got to play 3 games in a row so it was a good day.

Fail Speed Ahead!

This year GW has changed their release format drastically.  Once upon a time GW would come out with a new army every 3 months or so intermixed with model waves and occasionally broken up by a new main rule book.  Toss in a month or 2 of useless releases (LoTR, I'm looking at you...) and that's a year from the evil heartless money-grubbing monsters good people at GW.  For 2013 they decided to release an army update a month.  Since January, we've seen 6 codexes/army books with number 7 a few days away.  That's more then we usually see in a year.  In the beginning I was thrilled to see this and hoped armies that really needed an update would get one sooner rather then later this way (to date this has happened once).  Now I have to ask if this is really the way to go.

White Dwarf sucks

There.  I said it.  Last year GW gave their magazine a makeover.  I wanted to wait until we had a good number of new issues before I made my evaluation of this and now I can say with certainty that it's no longer a $9 monthly catalog...now its a $10 monthly catalog.

Skimming Sushi

After shelving the project since the end of 4th edition, I am returning to my partially developed Tau army.  I have metal Pathfinders and Etherial so that proves I am not a bandwagoneer.  Right now the Tau are one of the armies I'm considering bringing to the GT at the Warstore Weekend, which by the way I will be attending.  This means I need to learn how to play them as well as get a decent all-comers 1850 list and I have about 6 months to do it all in.  Here goes nothing...

A Tale of a Company that used to care...

This month the world ended.  Well that's what its looking like after the rash of wonderful new changes coming out of the fantasy world where the GW execs must live.  Here in reality it seems like they've taken the next step toward ailenating their fanbase and further angering the independent stores that in the vast majority of the country are their only explosure to the public.  Believe it or not, this was not always the case.

2012 Year in Review

Another year is over so it's time again for my year review.  This was an interesting year that brought us 3 new army books, a new White Dwarf format and a new ruleset for 40k.  while it was a bit slow model-wise, it was an interesting ride...so here we go.
